Ceremony Elements 10: Unity Paint

Writer: Nick WellsNick Wells

This is one of the most creative and fun unity ceremonies around - unless you have a real fear of paint. Picture this: instead of traditional unity elements, you create art together right there during your ceremony. It's an element that can really bring smiles to everyone's faces.

The basic idea is simple - you'll each have different colours of paint and together you'll create a unique piece of artwork. Some couples use everything from a traditional canvas with acrylic paints to watercolours on high-quality paper. Some even use their wedding colours to create something that will match their future home perfectly.

There are so many ways to make this element your own. Some couples pour different colours together, others use brushes to create specific designs. Couples can even use their hands to make hearts or other meaningful shapes - mind the dress or the suit though. The beauty is in the spontaneity - no two paintings ever turn out exactly the same.

This is also a particularly good element to include if your ceremony involves a lot of children. Just make sure you have some wet wipes.

All of these ceremony elements can be beautifully woven into a wedding day, and as your celebrant, I'm here to help you choose and personalise the ones that best reflect your relationship. You can check out my previous posts on ceremony elements below or email me at nick.wells@thismoment.org.uk if you’d like to talk about how we could work together.

I’d love to hear from you.
